I walk back to the hotel feeling lightheaded. Am I just imagining things or did that really happen? My fingers lightly trace my lips. No, I could never have imagined a kiss like that. The feeling is so strange. I haven't felt passion like this for so long. I very nearly got carried away on the beach and that would have been bad. It felt like the right thing to do at the time but now, now I feel guilty. I know it's not like I am cheating on Adam or anything but we came on holidays together and now I am kissing another man. I very nearly did more than kiss another man. I am so confused. I think I'll go down to the pool and see if Claire and Becky are there; see what they think.

I head for the stairs to go back to my room. I need to grab some suntan lotion and some other bits. Normally I go in the lift but I feel like I need that little bit of exercise today. As I reach the second floor in clear sight I see Adam coming out of a room with a very self satisfied look on his face. He is heading straight for me and there is nowhere I can hide. As he reaches the stairs the smile is replaced with shock. I know I am mirroring the exact same expression.

'Liv, I was just um...' He looks flustered and glances down at his hands.

'It's none of my business what you've been doing,' I manage to get out in a small voice.

He looks me directly in the eye and he looks guilty. 'I guess not. So, how have you been?' He pulls me to one side to let a woman behind me get passed on the stairs.

'Do you really want to know?'

'I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want to know.'

'How do you think?' I ask sarcastically.

'I'm sorry. I handled this badly. I wanted to come and check up on you but I was afraid you wouldn't want to see me.' His hand comes up and rests on my arm. I shake it off.

'So you thought leaving me all on my own would be better for me?'

'You were right. It would have been too awkward staying in the same room together and I knew you weren't on your own. I saw you with those girls one day on the beach,' he says as though this explains everything.

'You saw me?' I clarify.

'Yes and you looked so miserable but I couldn't come over; I couldn't face it.' I hear a hint of remorse in his voice but not enough to make me think he is any less of a prick than I already think he is.

'Well I've done okay without you.'

'You look happy.' He's scrutinising me intently.

'That's no thanks to you. What did you expect me to do, sit on my own in my room for three weeks feeling sorry for myself?' I'm getting a bit pissed off now and defensive.
